Car Parking Solution

Solo Project

Overview

Due to the busy traffic and time-consuming travel in Chinese metropolises.

This Buscar app aims to design a parking space search app with good efficiency and user experiences so that people can bravely go out of their homes, go into the urban area, participate in urban life, and go out for a safe trip when they go outdoors.

In Spanish, "Buscar" means search, combined with the semantic meaning of the words "Bus" and "Car" related to vehicles and replacements in English, giving this application the expectation and design meaning that people can search for find parking spaces.

Car Parking is a big problem in China, especially when commuting on weekdays and driving to scenic spots on holidays.

Traffic jams and searching for parking spaces are very painful, which makes some citizens prefer to stay at home or activities near their homes during the rare long holidays.

This problem not only affects the time and mood of a driving user, but also affects the efficiency and safety of countless people, the relevant industrial chain, and the national production competitiveness, which can not be ignored.

Design Objective

1) Develop parking applications for users with parking needs and parking spaces

2) Improve the availability of app and reduce the chance of available parking spaces that are "not available due to sundries or special reasons".

3) Make the operation experience easy to use

Research Objective

Explore the traditional parking space rental process and identify the parking-related problem areas to be solved in this application.

Let more urban parking spaces be quickly found and rented, greatly reducing the traffic congestion rate in cities and hot spots, making driving smooth and parking no longer annoying.

Interview subject matter with an car design expert

I called and consulted my former design director (he was my boss who leads the electric car design team at Hon Hai Foxconn) for his views on parking problems.

Feedback:

  • There are problems with the city’s traffic route planning and traffic laws have not been fully implemented.

  • To solve traffic problems, the entire city needs to cooperate with the key government agencies and educate the people to improve their behavior quality.

I also Discussed the parking situation they encountered with friends.

They are sales, designer, and engineer. I interviewed these friends and met with multiple parking problems from business trips to school, shopping malls to travel.

Online survey with potential end-users

I did an online survey with end-users within 1-2 days. The surveys helped me to identify and reassure some problems in parking.

 

Most people think that the downtown business district is hardest to find parking lots, and they complain the parking price is too high. Besides, finding parking lots is still the most frustrating part.

Parking demand period on weekdays:

  • Morning session: parking space near the company

  • lunchtime period: parking space of restaurants near the company

  • Dinner time: parking spaces in restaurants near the company

  • Home after work: parking space in the neighborhood

It takes at least 2-15 minutes to find a parking spot. People who often need to drive around to visit customers may spend nearly two hours a day looking for parking spaces.

If parking demand is not solved, it will seriously affect individual productivity, and then affect national competitiveness.

Ideatation

The Buscar Solution

Buscar Solution is a set of shared solutions for specifically finding parking spaces, including software and hardware integration, urban big data, AI intelligent algorithms, etc. In this design exercise, due to time constraints, only the application-side functions of Buscar Solution will be shown.

I wanted to focus on fulfilling certain requirements such as the interaction among the app, IOT parking lock, and the users. I tried to provide more options for inclusiveness but also not to complicate on features or pathways.

According to the research results and user needs, I sorted out the following function points to solve the problem of finding parking spaces and online payment.
In addition to software, this solution also needs to connect hardware interfaces such as smart car locks and monitoring equipment

Future Consideration

Improve the design plan:

Improve the entire system in the human-computer interaction design of mobile terminals, PC terminals, wearable device terminals, smart speaker terminals, vehicle system terminal software, parking lot panels, data backends, and visual signs.

Explore more barrier-free design experiences in the entire solution:

Solve the problem of finding parking spaces for more users.

Plan more possibilities for integration with other industries:

Such as tourism, catering, education, corporate cooperation, environmental protection, etc.

 

Refined research depth:

Interview more users from different groups and regions to understand the characteristics of local parking problems, and formulate customized design plans for parking lots in special areas within the budget to improve user experience.
